Activation of Metallothionein Gene Expression
Activation of Metallothionein Gene Expression

... and progressive disease in a number of human tumors (11, 12). In this context, MTF-1 may be important for tumorigenesis not only through MT expression but also through its regulation of other genes. For example, MTF-1 activity is necessary for the expression of g-glutamylcysteine synthetase (13), th ...

Certain lines derived from tumors have abnormal but relatively stable chromosome content, whereas others exhibit substantial chromosome instability (CIN), a condition in which chromosomes frequently missegregate. The role of CIN as a causative factor in oncogenesis is both complex and ...

What Else Do We Know About Menthol?  Although there may be an effect on the function of cold receptors, with cooling affecting airflow, there is no good evidence that menthol increases overall tobacco exposure through an effect such as modifying air passageways, patterns of inhalation, puff volume ...

... For many decades, tools for cell-cell communication were of great concern in various research fields, not only in basic research, but also in medical research. Although a large number of humoral factors, such as cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, hormones, and so on, have been identified and ch ...

... corresponds to a previously described cell division factor called FtsEX. It seems that the ATPase activity of the nucleotide-binding domain protein (FtsE) provokes a conformational change in the transmembrane component (FtsX) (Yang et al., 2012), which in turn activates the PG hydrolytic activity of ...

... Takada and Jürgens, 2007). It was recently demonstrated that ATML1 is not only necessary but also sufficient for protodermal identity (Peterson et al., 2013; Takada et al., 2013). ATML1 overexpression leads to ectopic ATML1 promoter activity in the inner tissues of post-embryonic seedlings as well a ...

... in Arabidopsis thaliana). E. coli and S. pombe even have similar aspect ratios (length is approximately four times width), despite a nearly 100-fold difference in volume and qualitatively different spatial patterns of growth. One speculation is that the shape and aspect ratio of these rods may have ...

Role of Silicon in Diatom Metabolism. Messenger

... Patterns of mRNA accumulation Because of limitations with in vivo polypeptide labelling in C. fusiformis (Okita & Volcani, 1980), mRNAs were analysed. A Comparative Analysis of Extra-Embryonic Endoderm Cell

SULF1

Sulfatase 1, also known as SULF1, is an enzyme which in humans is encoded by the SULF1 gene.Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) act as co-receptors for numerous heparin-binding growth factors and cytokines and are involved in cell signaling. Heparan sulfate 6-O-endo-sulfatases, such as SULF1, selectively remove 6-O-sulfate groups from heparan sulfate. This activity modulates the effects of heparan sulfate by altering binding sites for signaling molecules.
