Session 241 Ganglion Cells: Development, axotomy, trauma

... Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. Purpose: In addition to rod and cone photoreceptors of the outer retina, intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) constitute a third class of inner retinal photoreceptors that play roles in both image and non-image forming vision. ipRGCs exp ...

... (sRNAs) act as mobile signals that are actively and selectively transported to target cells through PD to specify their fates [18]. Around twenty years ago, the first mobile signal moving between cells via PD, the homeodomain (HD) TF KNOTTED1 (KN1), was discovered in maize. KN1 is expressed in the L ...

... Preliminary studies indicated that 95–100% of the CD45⫹ cells in the light scatter gate expressed the CD4, CD8, CD19, ␥␦ TCR, or Gr-1 epitopes. Gr-1 (also known as Ly-6G) is expressed by murine neutrophils and eosinophils; consequently, the positive cells in the lymphocyte gate using this flow cytom ...

Asymmetric Cell Divisions: Zygotes of Fucoid Algae as a

... Zygotes of Fucoid Algae as a Model System Zygotes of fucoid algae have, for many years, been a fruitful system in which to study the mechanisms by which cells acquire polarity and regulate asymmetric cell divisions, mainly because they are easy to manipulate and analyze in the laboratory (for recent ...

Emerging regulatory mechanisms in ubiquitin

... Although the SCF and APC/C are structurally similar, they differ in complexity. The SCF has only three core subunits (cullin 1, RBX1 and SKP1) but cooperates with multiple different substrate adaptors, the F-box proteins (see figure panel A). The human genome encodes 68 different F-box proteins. By ...

SULF1

Sulfatase 1, also known as SULF1, is an enzyme which in humans is encoded by the SULF1 gene.Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) act as co-receptors for numerous heparin-binding growth factors and cytokines and are involved in cell signaling. Heparan sulfate 6-O-endo-sulfatases, such as SULF1, selectively remove 6-O-sulfate groups from heparan sulfate. This activity modulates the effects of heparan sulfate by altering binding sites for signaling molecules.
