... Suppose now that n is coprime to the order of the group G: in particular by Lagrange’s theorem no element g ∈ G has order dividing n (besides the identity). Therefore, ker pn = {1G }, so pn is injective. But if pn is an injective map from a finite set to itself, it must also be surjective. In partic ...

... A positive integer d is called highest common factor of 2 integers a and b (atleast one of them being non zero) if (i) d is a factor of both a and b. (ii) Every other common factor of a and b divides d. The HCF of a and b is denoted by (a, b) = d. Relatively prime numbers or co-prime numbers Two int ...

System of polynomial equations

A system of polynomial equations is a set of simultaneous equations f1 = 0, ..., fh = 0 where the fi are polynomials in several variables, say x1, ..., xn, over some field k.Usually, the field k is either the field of rational numbers or a finite field, although most of the theory applies to any field.A solution is a set of the values for the xi which make all of the equations true and which belong to some algebraically closed field extension K of k. When k is the field of rational numbers, K is the field of complex numbers.
