Spiral Galaxy - Purdue Physics

... The nearest star (other than the sun) is 4.3 light years away. Our Galaxy (the Milky Way) is about 100,000 light years in diameter. Diameter of local cluster of galaxies: about 1 Megaparsec. Distance to M87 in the Virgo cluster: 50 million light years. Distance to most distant object seen in the uni ...

... - Microtrons, by many passes, reuse expensive RF many times to get energy up. Penalty is that the average current has to be reduced proportional to 1/number passes, for the same installed RF. - CEBAF type machines: add passes until the “decremental” gain in RF system and operating costs pays for add ...

... elements can be described, understood and modified (as far as its format is concerned) on the basis of group theory and more specifically by using the group SO(4,2)xSU(2). Second, we show that “periodic tables” also exist in the subatomic and sub-nuclear worlds and that group theory is of paramount ...

Zero Gravity Ride

... There many situations in which the sum of the product “mass times velocity” is constant over time To each product we assign the name, “momentum” and associate it with a conservation law. (Units: kg m/s or N s) A force applied for a certain period of time can be graphed and the area under the cur ...

Future Circular Collider

Future Circular Collider (FCC) is an integral conceptual design study for post-LHC particle accelerator options based on a new 80–100-km-circumference tunnel infrastructure. The collaboration is open to scientific institutes and companies of any size from all nations. At the moment there are 57 institutes from 22 nations. The Future Circular Collider study has an emphasis on proton-proton and electron-positron (lepton) high-energy frontier machines. It is exploring the potential of hadron and lepton circular colliders, performing an in-depth analysis of infrastructure and operation concepts and considering the technology research and development programs that would be required to build a future circular collider. A conceptual design report will be delivered before the end of 2018, in time for the next update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics.
