... tween the two Fermi surfaces exceeds the energy gained from pairing – the so-called Chandrasekhar– Clogston (CC) limit of superconductivity. The issue of pairing and fermionic superfluidity in an imbalanced Fermi mixture has intrigued physicists for many decades. Although a population imbalance can ...

We suggest to employ a laser-assisted tunneling scheme to establish the many-particle state of “conditional-hopping bosons”, thus realizing a gas of Abelian anyons. The fractional statistics phase can be directl ...

Low-frequency conductivity of a nondegenerate two-dimensional electron liquid
Low-frequency conductivity of a nondegenerate two-dimensional electron liquid

... The question of observing the actual dynamics or electron scattering in the electron liquid has not been addressed previously. From analogy with single-electron scattering one may expect that an insight into this dynamics can be gained from the frequency dependence of ␴ xx ( ␻ ). Here, we develop an ...

Microscopic description of two dimensional dipolar quantum gases Universitat Polit` ecnica de Catalunya

... A microscopic description of the many-body properties of anisotropic homogeneous gases of bosonic dipoles in two dimensions is presented and discussed. By changing the polarization angle with respect to the plane, we study the impact of the anisotropy, present in the dipole-dipole interaction on dif ...

In this note, we extend these results by describing a quantum control technique which allows to prepare arbitrary Dicke spin states, as well as maximally entangled states by means of properly sequencing of external couplin ...

Notes on noise

... Actually, for the case we have considered in which the noise source is classical, f (t) and f (t0 ) are real commuting variables; therefore K(t) is an even function of t and correspondingly K̃(ω) is an even function of ω. Classical noise is spectrally symmetric, and the rates for excitation and deca ...

... The micromechanical cleavage method have been also applied to other layered materials successfully, creating all sort of new 2D materials. We would like to highlight three of them: 1) Boron nitride, with an identical geometry to graphene but with two inequivalent atoms in the unit cell[3]. 2) Bismut ...

Dynamics and interference of autoionizing wave packets

The calculations are performed using R-matrix methods combined with time-dependent multichannel quantum-defect th ...

Relativistic effects in atomic and molecular properties

... Until the seventies of the 20th century it was generally accepted that for a description of the electronic structure of atoms and molecules and, therefore, for the whole chemistry and for the substantial part of physics, relativistic theory is not needed. According to Sheldon L. Glashow [1], Nobel P ...

Tight binding

In solid-state physics, the tight-binding model (or TB model) is an approach to the calculation of electronic band structure using an approximate set of wave functions based upon superposition of wave functions for isolated atoms located at each atomic site. The method is closely related to the LCAO method used in chemistry. Tight-binding models are applied to a wide variety of solids. The model gives good qualitative results in many cases and can be combined with other models that give better results where the tight-binding model fails. Though the tight-binding model is a one-electron model, the model also provides a basis for more advanced calculations like the calculation of surface states and application to various kinds of many-body problem and quasiparticle calculations.
