• Philip Hyde was born in 1921 in San Francisco
• He grew up in San Francisco and went to Ansel Adams’
photography program at the California School of Fine Arts
• His influences were Ansel Adams, Minor White, Edward Weston,
Imogen Cunningham, Lisette Model, and Dorothea Lange
• He is known for taking pictures of landscapes for environmental
campaigns
• His work has been in more environmental campaigns than any other
photographer
• His photographs had appeared in The New York Times, Audubon,
Life, National Geographic, Aperture, B&W Magazine, Fortune, and
Newsweek
