Whistler Freestyle Head Coach Contract, 12 months Whistler Freestyle Development Team, Whistler, BC Contract Details Position Type: 12 month contract, year-round  Whistler Blackcomb Head Coach (Oct 16-April 15)  CFSA Water Ramp Manager (April 16-Oct 15)  Technical Development – year round (Canadian Freestyle Ski Association) Location: Whistler BC* Reports to: The Freestyle Head Coach will report to a Whistler Freeestyle program Development Team who will meet face to face every 6 – 8 weeks. Specifically the Head coach will directly report to and be accountable to the organisation who holds their contract in that period  Apr 16 2015 - Oct 15 2015 - Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA)  Oct 16 2015 - April 15 2016 - Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club Main Functions The role of the Whistler Freestyle Head Coach (referred to as Head Coach) is to provide consistent high quality training for athletes and coaches to achieve excellence in the sport of Freestyle Skiing. This is a technical leadership role that requires a very strong understanding of what it takes to train athletes in Freestyle Skiing at multiple stages of development with a specialty in the Train to Train Can Free Long Term Athlete development stage. In the summer the Whistler Freestyle Head Coach will manage the operations and scheduling of the Blackcomb water ramp facility, and oversee some programming and coach training opportunities on behalf of CFSA. In the winter the Whistler Freestyle Head Coach will manage Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Clubs dry land and on-snow programs, oversee coaches, and manage BFSC scheduling and communications with coaches, athletes, parents, and partners. The Head Coach will also support project management for the proposed Mogul Training centre, and directly manage scheduling and operations of the centre when it is built. This role is executed through two separate summer and winter positions with direct payment, reporting and accountability to two different employers, but with consistent bi-monthly reporting to a small joint oversight committee comprising:    CFSA Sport Development Director (CFSA) Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club Coach Liason (WBFSC) Whistler Sport Legacies VP Sport (WSL) The Freestyle Head Coach will work on an ongoing basis Monthly Whistler Sport Legacies VP Sport – on planning and meeting benckmarks for professional development of targeted coaches and program and skills standards for identified programs. Skills & Experience Required Certification  Trained Comp Dev. Coach CFSA /NCCP  Certified CFSA/NCCP Air 4B certified coach  Air Doubles On Tramp and On Snow an asset Candidate Skills  Strong Acrobatic Skills  In-field leadership skills in managing athlete programs/facilities  Administrative experience with ability to manage schedules and budgets  Proficient in excel, word and basic social media  Excellent communicator who can build relationships, resolve conflict and negotiate with others Compensation Compensation A – RAMP (CFSA)  Compensations will be provided for management of ramps and program development (this includes coordinating ramp maintenance, as it will be provided by WSL. Includes Work Safe for duration of contract no other benefits) $18,000 Compensation B – Technical Development (CFSA)  $3,000 Compensation C – WBFSC Head Coach (WBFSC)  Compensation will be provided for Head Coach Position (dependent upon qualifications (benefits TDB) range $26 - $29,000 Compensation D – MTC  The Freestyle Head Coach duties in running the MTC will be determined based on project and funding approval. Detailed Task Descriptions by Contract Area RAMP Communication & Marketing  Maintain and schedule user groups into water ramps - possibly utilizing Google calendar  Share Water Ramp programming with user interested user group via Email, Facebook etc.  Keep updated contacts: clubs, teams  Maintain contact list for maintenance staff and emergencies RAMP User Issues  Address issues that come up with users promptly i.e. scheduling, billing etc.  Deal with all user requests and complaints RAMP Internal Communication  Lead on ramp maintenance issues and liaise with WSL operations and maintenance staff to ensure the site is running safely (maintain maintenance log)  Communicate/verify programming and booking to CFSA Rep/WSL Rep RAMP Budget  Control and maintain budget under supervision of CFSA Finance Director  Provide monthly reports as directed  Create a season end report and recommendations TECHNICAL - Training Ongoing  Plan and manage training and mentoring of coaches as required  Communicate/develop facilities and features as needed TECHNICAL – Communication Ongoing  Regular communication with PSO (BC Freestyle) and NSO (CFSA) to ensure proper understanding and implementation of programming related to athlete development WBFSC Coaching  Coach a program that allows WBFSC athletes to excel and compete in halfpipe, slopestyle and moguls disciplines.  Coach a program where athletes learn the benefits of skiing both freeride and mogul disciplines.  Create and maintain on-mountain safety protocol with coaches and athletes.  Run a fall dry land training program.  Work with CFSA HPAD Manager and Provincial coaches to develop program benchmarks and Track athlete development against benchmarks.  Approximately 60 on hill coaching days, including regular programming, Development Fridays, and Competitions.  Be an Ambassador to all things Freestyle, including structuring the future of the club.  Attend all Club events and socials, and board meetings. WBFSC Administration  Submit weekly report to Board, which includes daily athlete attendance and coach attendance.        WBFSC WBFSC WBFSC WBFSC WBFSC WBFSC WBFSC Mogul Training Centre - Future Assist with the creation and presentation of CEP Grant. Provide mid-season and end of season athlete report card. Coordinate athlete registration. Provide weekly member ‘e-blast ’ and calendar of events for website. Liaise by phone and e-mail with athletes and their families in a prompt and timely fashion. Maintain Club equipment inventory. A Board representative will be the Head Coach Liaison. Scheduling  Google Calendars  Create winter /dryland /offseason programming  Updated as events/days are cancelled or added Reporting  Direct Liaison with pre appointed member of WBFSC Board Human Resources  Hire and manage Assistant Coaches that embody the goals and objectives of the club, with prior approval from the board or its coach committee.  Coordinate coach passes.  Coordinate and obtain Criminal Record checks for all coaches.  Obtain resumes, bio, SIN #, photo copy of driver’s license, and web site photo from each coach. On – Hill Work  Coordinate and participate in on-hill course work as required. Financial Management  It is a priority to insure the program does not exceed its budget.  Recommend assistant coach ratios and rates, which correspond with the budget.  Create and submit a Competition Budget/Performance Team Budget  Assist with setting compensation rates for assistant coaches.  Help identify any unforeseen costs High Performance  Develop and administer a High Performance Development Strategy. Co-ordinate with User Groups who may utilize club resources  POL or other entity may require access to club coaches (Note the Mogul Training Centre is in development) Scheduling and User Groups The MTC Manager will be responsible for scheduling all user groups and ensuring they are in compliance with CFSA insurance requirements. He/she will also manage any user fees or additional site preparation costs required by these groups.  WBFSC – Early December to mid April, 2-3 days per week with optional MTC Future additional training and in late April/May.  WB Freestylerz Program, early December to mid April, 2 days per week with optional additional training during holiday periods and in late April/May through the Spring Slayers Program.  Podium of Life – Early December to end May – approx. 4 days per week.  Momentum Camps - Late December to late April, selected dates, approx. 35 – 45 days.  Regional teams such as Vancouver Freestyle Club, Mount Washington – dates TBC.  BC Development Team – early December to end of May, select training camps.  BC Team – early December to end of May, select training camps.  Other Provincial Teams, late April to end of May select training camps.  National Teams – select training camps TBC  Other International teams - select training camps TBC. - Grooming, Site Preparation and Equipment  The Manager will be responsible for coordinating grooming and preparation of the Mogul and Jump site with WB Grooming and Snowmaking services, as per requirements of the MOU and in compliance with WB’s environmental guidelines.
