Muscle
Muscle

... Contraction of the smooth muscle surrounding hollow organs may propel the luminal contents through the organ, or it may regulate internal flow by changing the tube diameter. In addition, small bundles of smooth muscle cells are attached to the hairs of the skin and iris of the eye. The autonomic ner ...

Genetic evidence further supports that the formation of an Frs2α-Shp2 complex and its recruitment to FGF receptors are crucial for downstream ERK signaling in this process, whereas constitutively active Ras signaling can rescue ocular coloboma in the FGF signaling mutants. Our results thus re ...

TAAs have been considered as a part of two independent pathways, several studies have suggested that they participate in the same auxin biosynthesis pathway because these mutants show similar phenotypes (Cheng et al. 2007b, 2008, Strader and Bartel 2008, Zhao 2010). Recently, TAA was found to conver ...

Understanding the Regulation of Metabolic Enzyme Acetylation in E

... Global protein acetylation is a newly discovered phenomenon in bacteria. Of the more than 250 acetylations reported in E. coli, many are of metabolic enzymes [1-3]. Thus, acetylation could represent a novel posttranslational mechanism of metabolic control. Yet, almost nothing is known about the regu ...

Background: We examined the influence of the 4G/5G PAI-1 (plasminogen activator inhibitor) genotype on Angiotensin II (Ang II)induced PAI-1 expression by human endothelial cells (HUVEC) in the presence and absence of AT1-receptor blocker losartan, and screened for this polymorphism in relation to pl ...

Auxin transport routes in plant development

Signal transduction

Signal transduction occurs when an extracellular signaling molecule activates a specific receptor located on the cell surface or inside the cell. In turn, this receptor triggers a biochemical chain of events inside the cell, creating a response. Depending on the cell, the response alters the cell's metabolism, shape, gene expression, or ability to divide. The signal can be amplified at any step. Thus, one signaling molecule can cause many responses.
