... Laboratory. He worked on both the 1 MV and 5.5 MV Van de Graaff accelerators at UVa for a number of years. After hearing the legendary Jesse Beams give a talk in 1973 about his gravitation research, Ritter made some suggestions, and Beams, knowing that he would retire soon, encouraged Ritter to join ...

... Calorimeter (ZDC) is designed for the analysis of the collision centrality by measuring the energy of forward going particles. The T0 detector, partially covering the backward hemisphere around the target, is planned to trigger central heavy ion collisions and provide a start T0 signal for the mRPC- ...

... The weak equivalence principle, also known as the universality of free fall or the Galilean equivalence principle can be stated in many ways. The strong EP includes (astronomic) bodies with gravitational binding energy (e.g., 1.74 solar-mass pulsar PSR J1903+0327, 15.3% of whose separated mass is ab ...

... Armed with the Rutherford model of the atom, one can calculate the scattering rate as a function of angle from the Coulomb scattering of the α-particle off a gold nucleus (i.e. the scattering of 2 charged particles using electromagnetism). The derivation of the Rutherford Scattering formulae will no ...

Future Circular Collider

Future Circular Collider (FCC) is an integral conceptual design study for post-LHC particle accelerator options based on a new 80–100-km-circumference tunnel infrastructure. The collaboration is open to scientific institutes and companies of any size from all nations. At the moment there are 57 institutes from 22 nations. The Future Circular Collider study has an emphasis on proton-proton and electron-positron (lepton) high-energy frontier machines. It is exploring the potential of hadron and lepton circular colliders, performing an in-depth analysis of infrastructure and operation concepts and considering the technology research and development programs that would be required to build a future circular collider. A conceptual design report will be delivered before the end of 2018, in time for the next update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics.
