Iodine Isotopes and their Species in Surface Water from the

... The ocean is the major mobile iodine pool that interacts with land, atmosphere and biosphere. Some studies suggested that the main mode of iodine transport from sea to land is through wet (precipitation) deposition (Truesdalea and Jones, 1996; López-Gutiérrez et al., 2001; Reithmeier et al., 2010). ...

... (NO2-), and ammonium (NH4+) has been analyzed by conversion to ammonia gas and collection of the cationic ammonium form for subsequent conversion to N2 (often referred to as the ammonia “distillation” and “diffusion” methods). Recently, more sensitive isotope analysis methods have been developed for ...

... (Lorcnzen 1970; Carlson 1977) arc well rclatcd to Chl concentrations in both lakes and oceans. In lakes, sinking fluxes of C depend on watercolumn Chl concentrations or algal biomass (Baines and Pace 1994), although a similar relationship has yet to be established for marine environments. Thus, sink ...

1994 arctic ocean section - CCHDO - University of California San

... Traditionally both Canada and the United States have relied on aircraft and drifting ice camps in supporting scientific work in the Arctic Ocean. Early examples include the so-called Ski Jump project in 1951–1952 and the ice stations Alpha and Bravo in 1957. These efforts have been particularly succ ...

... There is ongoing debate as to whether the oligotrophic ocean is predominantly net autotrophic and acts as a CO2 sink, or net heterotrophic and therefore acts as a CO2 source to the atmosphere. This quantification is challenging, both spatially and temporally, due to the sparseness of measurements. Th ...

Indian Ocean

The Indian Ocean is the third largest of the world's oceanic divisions, covering approximately 20% of the water on the Earth's surface. It is bounded by Asia on the north, on the west by Africa, on the east by Australia, and on the south by the Southern Ocean or, depending on definition, by Antarctica. It is named after India. The Indian Ocean is known as Ratnakara, ""the mine of gems"", in ancient Sanskrit literature and as Hind Mahasagar in Hindi and other Indian languages.
