03-Heredity and environment – Discussion
1. Your heredity is based on your genome, which is your full set of genes.
Every cell has 23 pair of chromosomes, which are made up of DNA. Sections of
which are genes, which control your inherited characteristics.
Some of these inherited characteristics such as your eye color are part of your
phenotype, whereas other non-observable items such as an inherited cancer gene
is part of your genotype.
2. When one egg splits, it produces monozygotic twins, whereas if two separate
eggs are fertilized they produce dizygotic twins. If twins are both male, the 23rd
pair of chromosomes will be XY, but is they are female, this pair will be XX.
3. When chromosome abnormalities occur, they are most often associated with the
age of the mother.
