environment.
B. Niche – organisms role
C. Population – group of organisms; same
species.
D. Community – all populations combined
E. Biotic – living things in ecosystem.

II. Parts of a Community


A. Producers – make their own food (ex.
plants)
B. Consumers – eat other organisms




Primary – eat only plants
Secondary – eat only meat
Tertiary – eat both plants and meat
C. Decomposers – break down dead matter
(bacteria, fungi)
III. Predators and Prey



1. Predator – the organism doing the
hunting.
2. Prey – the organism being hunted.
3. Scavengers – feed off of the tissue of
dead organisms.
IV. Biodiversity



1. “Bio” = life
2. “diversity” = different kinds of
something.
3. Biodiversity = variety of living
organisms in an environment.
The greater the biodiversity, the better chance
organisms have for survival.
