Seventh Grade Study Guide
Your final exam will consist of three parts:
– Wordskills
– Grammar
– Essay
Wordskills Unit 16! All of your wordskills
questions will be taken from this unit!
Essay
You will pick one essay prompt from either
Roll of Thunder or A Wrinkle in Time. You
will write a 3 paragraph essay in which you
answer each part of the question. You
may bring your novel to class the day of
the final.
Roll of Thunder Essay Topics
The characters in ROT respond to racism
in different ways. Discuss the differences
and the similarities.
Some people believe that Stacey grew up
during the course of the novel. Do you
agree? Do you feel that he transformed
into a man? Be specific.
A Wrinkle in Time
In what ways does Camazotz resemble
Meg's neighborhood on Earth?
Describe what makes Charles Wallace so
extraordinary. How do these traits both
hurt and help him on Camazotz?
Grammar

Nouns
Are words that name people, places things
and ideas.
Underline the Nouns
The Milky Way is one of several hundred
galaxies.
The sun, the closest star to the Earth, is a
typical star.
Supergiants are the largest known stars.
Pronouns
The words that are sometimes used to replace
nouns. i.e. He, her, they, who, them, it, their….
Underline the pronoun
Who designed stars by Greek letters?
Johann Bayer listed them in a star atlas in
1603; it included many the Ptolemy had
not cataloged.
John Flamsteed listed these stars
according to their constellations.
Verbs
Are words that name an action or describe a state of being.
i.e. ran, skipped, grew (action)
Have, has, had, do, does, did, may, might, must, can, could (helping)
Am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been (state of being)
Underline the verbs in the following
sentence.
Many stars vary their brightness when
they expand and contract.
They can become very brilliant and then
fade within days.
Some stars’ cycles will last for years.
Adjectives and Adverbs
Adjectives are words that describe. The red apple
Adverbs describe verbs, adjectives or other adverbs.
The panther moved quickly through the trees.
Label the underlined word as an Adverb or
Adjective.
The star called Rigel in the constellation
Orion has a bluish-white tint.
Orion is located almost squarely on the
celestial equator.
The stars form a picture of Orion, a hunter
from Greek Mythology.
Prepositions
Show relationships between words in a sentence. I.e.. About, above, in, of,
until, up, in, below
Underline the preposition in the following
sentences.
Tycho Brahe, a Danish astronomer, made
measurements of the solar system.
This data was the most reliable until the
invention of the telescope in the
seventeenth century.
Brahe studies law and philosophy at
universities in Copenhagen and Leipzig.
Conjunctions
Hook up words, phrases and clauses. i.e. and, but, or, nor, for , yet.
Underline the conjunctions
Both North Star and Pole Star are names
for the star the roughly marks the direction
of the North Pole.
Pole Star has been used by sailors, for
they needed to find their direction when
sailing at night.
It is used today for determining latitudes
and other measurements.
Interjections
is an exclamation that expresses feeling. Wow! Whew! Uh..! Huh, hmm etc…
