What is DocuShare?
DocuShare is an “enterprise content management system” hosted by LPS. In other words, it is a system that allows
you to easily manage your electronic content using a web browser. Using DocuShare, you can create, organize, and
share content, collaborate with other users on projects, search for and retrieve content, and automate work processes
such as faxing, scanning, and printing to the LPS Print Center.
What do I need to use it?
DocuShare is a web based tool. Because of that, everything begins or ends in a web browser. Here at LPS we
recommend and support the latest version of Firefox. Other than that, the only software needed is whatever software is
required to view the individual files you are choosing to open (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). You can access
DocuShare from anywhere in the world.
There is a link to DocuShare on the Staff Center page of LPS.org. Or you can type the following address into Firefox:
docushare.lps.org
The Login and Password are the same for DocuShare as for email or any other LPS web based tool you have used.
What does DocuShare replace?
DocuShare is not a simple replacement for an existing LPS system. It is an entirely new tool that combines the features
of a number of our existing LPS tools and offers a great deal more. Other tools like Universal Locker, S: Drive, etc. will
not go away immediately, but you will likely find DocuShare to be an enjoyable “upgrade.”
Why will I want to use DocuShare?
DocuShare does a whole lot of things. In reality, you may never use some of the features it offers. Other features may
be just the delightful tool you have been hoping to see for ages. Below is a list of some (but certainly not all) of the
things you can do within DocuShare.

Upload electronic files of ANY type

Email documents to your DocuShare account as
attachments
•
Powerful search tool for locating your own files,
or others’
•
Share documents with your colleagues in
department, school or other group collections
•
Document routing, editing, and approval
•
Create discussion areas
•
Create new content directly inside of DocuShare
in “Blog” or “Wiki” formats
•
Email notifications and/or RSS subscriptions
keep you up to date on changes
•
Your own personal collection
•
Control over who can access files
•
Retain previous versions of a document
•
Scan paper documents directly from an LPS
MFD to your own DocuShare account
•
Send a document directly from DocuShare to
the LPS Print Center
