Yeast beta-glucan is a polysaccharide that exists in the cell wall of yeast, which can stimulate the
human immune system. Carboxymethyl Yeast Beta-glucan C90, which is partly carboxymethylated yeast
beta-glucan, is water soluble, and has the same functions as yeast beta-glucan when used in cosmetics. It

The formulations of C90 at different levels of concentration (0.04-0.4%) of hydrogel and o/w emulsion
were used as pretreatment on volunteers' forearms for evaluation. The renewal rate of the stratum
corneum was determined during the experiments. The results showed 0.4% C90 in emulsion significantly
increased the renewal rate of the stratum corneum compared with the control groups.

The formulations of C90 at different levels of concentration (0.04-0.4%) of hydrogel and o/w emulsion
were used as pretreatment on five volunteers' forearms for evaluation of skin humidity protective effects.
All formulations increased the skin humidity compared with the control groups.

C90 used for anti-oxidation
Skins of the volunteers were pretreated for 5 days with o/w emulsion containing different
concentrations of C90. Then the skins were exposed to UV-A. Squalene hydroperoxides concentrations
from skin lipid extractions were measured. All formulations with C90 obviously decreased the
concentrations of squalene hydroperoxides in the skins.

Yeast Extract E100

Yeast Extract E100, extracted from yeast cells, contains excessive amounts of amino acids, peptides
and nucleic acids. On dry basis, E100 contains at least 30% amino acids, 15% nucleic acids and 30%
peptides, all of which are the main ingredients of the NMF (natural moisturing factors). Amino acids and
nucleic acids can be easily absorbed by the skin to nourish the skin cells. Consequently, E100 can
promote collagen synthesis, acts as an anti-inflammatory, and also soothes, moisturize and revitalize the
skin.
E100 can be used in a variety of cosmetic products, such as under-eye creams and facial lotions,

The Mw of E100 was determined using volume exclusion chromatography. The results showed that
the main components of E100 were amino acids, nucleic acids and peptides. The Mw of E100 was small
(mostly under 1000D) so that it can be easily absorbed by skin cells.

32 volunteers aged from 35 to 55 took part in the tests. The formulation of E100 at a concentration
of 0.5% o/w emulsion was used as a treatment on the volunteers' forearms for 4 weeks. Every week the
skin was tested to determine the skin average roughness (SAR) and reduction rate of SAR. The results
showed formulation with E100 was effective as an anti-aging agent when compared with the control
group.

Skins below the eyes of 32 subjects were selected as the test areas, the skin elasticity before and
after the tests (samples: 5% N80; control groups: base without N80) were measured using skin elasticity
tester. R2 value is the ratio of the skin springback value without pressure to the skin maximum value of
stretch with pressure. During the test of 4 weeks, the R2 value of the samples was increasing, and the R2
change rate of the samples was significantly higher than the control groups.

Serum level of zinc in patients with acne is significantly lower compared with healthy objects, and
the lesion more severe, the zinc deficiency is more obvious. An o/w cream (containing 15% Z20) was
applied to 37 cases of randomly collected acne dermatitis patients, twice a day and last for three weeks.
The results showed that Z20 had good therapeutic effects for acne and dermatitis.
