Spreads tie and places on gingival extensions of bracket ___ 2. Pulls tie over arch wire ___ 3. Wraps the tie around the occlusal extensions of the bracket ___ 4. Continues procedure throughout the mouth Removing elastic bands: ___ 5. Selects scaler to remove elastic ties ___ 6. Places scaler under elastic and rolls elastic over bracket wings until elastic is released ___ 7. Removes all elastics placed, using safety technique Placing wire ligatures: ___ 1. Holds ligature wire between thumb & index finger ___ 2. Wraps wire around occlusal and gingival wings of bracket in a distal-mesial direction ___ 3. Crosses the wire ends & twists wire together for several rotations with hemostat ___ 4. Repeats process throughout mouth to secure arch wire ___ 5. With ligature wire cutting pliers, cuts “pigtails” to 3 – 4 mm. ___ 6. Bends “pigtails” into embrasures with condenser ___ 7. Checks for sharp ends with finger. Makes necessary adjustments ___ 8. Checks distal ends of arch wire & cuts away excess with distal-end cutting pliers Removing wire ligatures: ___ 9. Places beaks of wire cutting pliers where wire is exposed ___10. Cuts wire ___11. Carefully removes wire from wings of bracket ___12. Removes all ligature wires, using safety technique CDAMP-7-SS-OWT Removing an arch wire: ___ 1. Removes arch wire from the brackets using a hemostat ___ 2. Pulls arch wire from buccal tube on one side ___ 3. Holds arch wire securely while removing opposite end from buccal tube, avoiding injury to patient ____4.
