OPTICAL POLISHING PITCH
CYCAD CLEARGOLD optical pitches were introduced in
1984. They exceed the optical polishing properties of CYCAD optical
pitches when used to polish glass or quartz. CYCAD CLEARGOLD
pitches are low melting and clear, resembling honey in appearance.
Their transparency and low melting point makes them superior
materials for special polishing situations such as ceramic glasses.
CYCAD CLEARGOLD pitch was developed in part to allow control
of hardness by changing polishing coolant temperature, and has a
large change of hardness with temperature to favor this property.
CYCAD CLEARGOLD optical pitch is available in soft,
medium, medium-hard, and hard grades.

CYCAD BLACKGOLD optical polishing pitch is the fastest
polishing pitch that is commercially available. It can be used with any
of the common abrasives (rouge, ceria, or alumina). For regular
optical requirements, users of CYCAD BLACKGOLD optical
polishing pitch should find that they can significantly improve
productivity over their present material.
CYCAD BLACKGOLD pitch will polish very rapidly at low
lap pressure – down to 0.1 pound per square inch. Our research into
polishing mechanisms shows that such low pressures greatly reduce
microscale lap deformation and microscale work piece deformation,
so that truly planar polishing occurs (stoss effect). Since speed is not
significantly sacrificed by low pressures if basic pitch speed is good,
we believe CYCAD BLACKGOLD opens the door to practical
production rates for better surfaces.

BLOCKING PITCH
CYCAD BLOCKER is a production proven, ochre based
blocking pitch. This particular formulation is harder than many
others, and has been found to hold its shape even at higher than
normal ambient temperatures. An extra hard formulation is available
on special order for unusual situations.

YUCCA WAX
OPTICAL POLISHING WAX
CYCAD YUCCA WAX is a product of our continuing
search into the polishing process. YUCCA WAX is an ideal
replacement for optical pitch in applications involving soft materials
or where pitch is not a suitable material. YUCCA WAX has been
0reported to polish glass at about the same rate as regular CYCAD
OPTICAL PITCH. It is superior to pitch for polishing soft materials
like copper and organic crystals. It is particularly good for polishing
organic crystals that are being developed for non-liner optical
materials. Soft materials often give slicks and scratches with pitch
laps. YUCCA WAX is also an excellent material for zinc selenide.
YUCCA WAX is much cleaner to work with than pitch. It
may be mixed with pitch as a powerful softening agent and to provide
superior properties in some applications.
YUCCA WAX is presently available from inventory only in
HARD and SOFT grade (corresponding to CYCAD pitch grades).

CYCAD
OPTICAL PITCH
CYCAD optical pitch is our basic pitch, proven by nearly 50
years of industrial use. It is a fast polishing pitch that has been
accepted by the optical industry for use in polishing glass, germanium,
molybdenum, nickel, silicon, selenides, and other difficult to polish
metal and crystalline materials. It is also excellent for polishing glass
or quartz. CYCAD pitch is a low loading pitch, which shows
minimum change in hardness with temperature.
CYCAD pitch is available in soft, medium, medium-hard,
and hard grades from inventory. Extra-hard grade is available on
request. The prices given here apply to all grades of CYCAD optical
pitch.

Unfortunately, we have found it necessary to Increase
prices this year. The last increase was in 2011. Until now,
we have been able to maintain our price stability by
increasing the efficiency of our operations and by quantity
purchasing. Unfortunately increases in the price of
petroleum products, rosin, and shipping have forced us to
increase prices. As you are aware, we include the cost of
ground transportation within the continental United States
in the price of our materials.
If there are new products that you would like to see us
produce, let us know. We are always interested in
developing new tools for the optical industry.
If a follow-up purchase order is sent, it should be clearly marked “CONFIRMING” so
that the order will not be duplicated.
While we attempt to monitor the phone continuously between 8 AM and 5
PM Mountain time, it is sometimes necessary for all of our people to be out of the
office. An answering machine installed on the phone makes it possible for messages to
be left 24 hours per day, seven days per week. We can usually reply to a recorded
message within an hour during business hours.
MAIL ORDERS
Purchase orders from established companies in the optical industry will be
accepted. Orders from individuals should be accompanies by a check unless other
arrangements have been made in advance. New Mexico customers should include sales
tax if we do not have a valid nontaxable transaction certificate on file. Mail orders

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Payment is expected within 30 days. We will not ship to any company with
an account over 60 days old unless special arrangements are made in advance.
SHIPPING
CYCAD will normally pay shipping within the continental United States if
we select the transportation. We normally ship via United Parcel Service. If the buyer
requests special shipping such as truck or air freight, all shipping costs are at the buyer’s
expense.
This catalog is effective January 1, 2014 and replaces all previous price lists.
