Don’t forget the 14 cadaver muscles for open lab!
Look at the muscles listed in the lab manual as being required for the lab exam as figures from your book or the
plastic model of arm or leg or potential from either figure or model. Please remember that not all muscle in book are on
lab exam, only those listed in lab manual. Write this assignment out by hand in pencil or pen, no photo or digital
copying permitted, although you may wish to save a copy to study from when you hand in the original. The content of
this exercise will help you with the upcoming lab exam, but will not appear on Dr Wilson’s lecture test unless it appears in
lecture content in some way.
1) 2pts: Look at Figures 10.1 and 11.1. Draw a picture five times (5 separate sketches-same drawing five times) that
organizes these words that describe organization in a muscle from smallest to largest scale: Striations, Actin, Fascia,
Muscle fascicle, Myosin, Perimysium, Endomysium, Epimysium, sarcomere, and Myofiber.
2) 2 pts: Draw a picture that shows the 9 listed muscles of facial expression. Write the names of each muscle five times
with an arrow showing where it is located on your single drawing/picture.
3) 2 pts: Draw a picture that shows the 2 listed muscles of mastication. Write the names of each muscle five times with
an arrow showing where it is located on your picture.
4) 2 pts: Draw a picture that shows the 4 listed muscles of the anterolateral neck. Write the names of each muscle five

muscles) views. Write the names of each muscle five times with an arrow showing where it is located on your picture.
2pts Extra Credit: There are 13 groups of muscles identified in your lab manual (i.e. Muscles of Anterior Compartment of
Leg). Write the name, origin, insertion and function of one representative muscle from each of these 13 groups 5 times.
For Example: for a muscle from Anterior Compartment of leg you might choose to write the following N-O-I-F 5 times.
Muscle Name: Extensor Digitorum Longus O: Lateral Condyl of Tibia/Shaft of Fibula I: Phalnges II-V, F: Toe Extension

Yes this will take a while, so please do not delay. While you can work on this in groups, each person needs to hand-in their own hand written assignment with their
own sketches and their own list of muscle origin/insertion/functions lists. Don’t worry too much about “sketch quality” as long as I can determine what it is on your
sketch that is just fine.
This assignment is mostly to help you learn how to memorize large amounts of material, in this case the names of the muscles so you do well on the lab exam. :o)
