Labs 9 &10 Cat Muscle Dissection and Identification (use pictures provided & lab manual) NOTE: All deep muscles will be dissected on the right side of the body only. Superficial muscles will remain intact on the left side of the body. Identify the following muscles: Abdomen Upper Arm external oblique epitrochlearis internal oblique biceps brachii transverse abdominis triceps brachii (long head) rectus abdominis triceps brachii (medial head) triceps brachii ((lateral head) Chest & Neck brachialis xiphihumeralis pectoralis major Upper Leg pectoralis minor biceps femoris pectoantebrachialis semitendinosus serratus ventralis (anterior) semimembranous rectus abdominis adductor femoris scalenius medius adductor longus rectus thoracis (transverse costarum) vastus lateralis subscapularis vastus medialis rectus femoris Back sartorius clavotrapezius gracillis clavobrachialis (clavodeltoid) tensor fascia lata acromiotrapezius spinotrapezius Lower Leg levator scapula gastrocnemius acromiodeltoid soleus spinodeltoid peroneus muscles rhomboideus tibialis anterior supraspinatus extensor digitorum longus teres minor Hip infraspinatus gluteus maximus latissimus dorsi gluteus medius caudofemoralis Related Structures linea alba calcaneal (Achilles’s) tendon sciatic nerve Human & Cat Muscle Differences 1. pectoralis major- larger in human, smaller in cat 2. pectoralis minor- smaller in human, larger in cat 3. pectoantebrachialis – not present in human 4. Xiphihumeralis – not present in human 5. clavotrapezius, acromiotrapezius, spinotrapezius – three muscles in cat, one muscle in human (trapezius). 6. Levator scapulae – not present in human 7. caudofemoralis – not present in human 8. gluteus maximus – larger than gluteus medius in humans, smaller than gluteus medius in cat. 9. sartorius – wide muscle in cat, narrow muscle in human 10. adductor femoris – one muscle in cat, three muscles (adductor longus, adductor brevis, adductor magnus) in human 11. epitrochlearis – not present in human
