ATTENTION! IMPORTANT WARNING !!!
You have purchased a high quality, high precision
instrument. Prior to putting it into operation, you must
thoroughly read Instructions of Use and warnings. Neither
the manufacturer nor the dealer can assume any liability for
the incorrect use of the instrument. Please contact your
dealer immediately, if you should not clearly understand the
instruction for use.
INITIAL INSPECTION
Initial inspection and preliminary checkout procedures are recommended. For safe operation, please
follow the step-by-step procedures described in Chapter 3 and 4
Inspect the package exterior for evidence of damage due to handling in transit. Notify the carrier and
WALESCH Electronic GmbH immediately if damage is evident. Do not destroy or remove any of the
packing material used in a damaged shipment.
After unpacking, inspect the material for visible damage.

1-Preliminary
DENDROXRAY 2, for use in an irradiation room
The DENDROXRAY 2 system is designed for the use in an irradiation room.
With the exception of a shielding around the X-ray tube for the rays that not belongs to the user beam,
the DENDROXRAY 2 system has no further shielding against the X rays.
The X-ray tube of the DENDROXRAY 2 system has to be built-in into an irradiation room, which
protects the operators against all X rays coming out from the X-ray tube.
In addition, the irradiation room must also be implemented as a dark room so that the films and the
samples can be prepared and radiographed.
The maximum dose rate of the X-ray in the case of 20kV / 25mA and a distance of 2m is 45 Sievert
per hour.
In Switzerland, an approval is necessarily for X-ray system.
Also training is necessary for the operator.
In the preparation dark room, the humidity of the air and the temperature has to be held constant. The
temperature should not exceed 25°C and must not be lower than 3°C. An air-conditioned room is
recommended.
The cooling of the X-ray tube is a closed system. No additional water supply is required.

DENDROXRAY 2 + X-RAY CABINET, for use without an irradiation room
The X-ray tube of the DENDROXRAY 2 system is built-in into a cabinet, which protect the operators
against all X-rays coming out from the X-ray tube (fully protected device).
Fully protected device:
In accordance with the Swiss Regulations for Protection against Radiation, the local dose rate at a
distance of 10 cm from the surface of the case must not exceed the value of 1 µ Sievert per hour.
This equipment has the advantage (in Switzerland) that no approval is necessary for the operation.
The equipment has to stand in the preparation dark room.
In the preparation dark room, the humidity of the air and the temperature has to be held constant. The
temperature should not exceed 25°C and must not be lower than 3°C. An air-conditioned room is
recommended.
Since every device is set up individually for each customer, wishes with respect to design can also be
considered, for example cabinet size. The costs of the cabinet are calculated individually on the
requirement of each customer.

3-Installation Instructions
The installation of the DENDROXRAY 2 does only be made by a high-qualified person.
It is necessary to read carefully the Tube Assembly Documentation from Comet CXR-5 before using
DENDROXRAY 2. Never touch the Beryllium Window of the tube insert.
It is necessary to read carefully the Manual of the cooling unit WL1000 before using DENDROXRAY 2.
It is necessary to read carefully this instruction manual
It is necessary to read carefully the safety instructions.
WARNING
DO NOT CONNECT THE DENDROXRAY 2 TO THE AC LINE UNTIL CHAPTER 4 IS REACHED
Installation of the warning signal lamp
Mount the warning signal lamp in the nearby the X-Ray Unit.
Installation of the Cooling
!!! IMPORTANT !!!!
Position the cooling unit on the floor.
The cooling unit must be positioned in a freestanding position for good air circulation (otherwise reducing of the
cooling capacity)
Proper Grounding
The main power supply of the X-ray unit must be proper grounded, preferably to a water system ground using
2
copper pipe. Use heavy gauge wire for all ground connections (Min. 4mm )
!!!! IMPORTANT !!!!
Connect a ground wire from the power unit to a fix earth connection (Not a plug!).
Connect the water pipes
Connect the water pipes between the X-ray tube and the cooling unit.
-Remove plug of filler
-Fill the cooling unit with distilled water (about 3 cm above cooling fins).
The requirement is about 3 liter
-Screw plug of filler

4-Put into operation
!!!! IMPORTANT !!!!
- The use of the DENDROXRAY 2 is only allowed for person with a written permission.
- During the use of DENDROXRAY 2 it is strictly forbidden for somebody to be inside the
irradiation room.
- Install the x-ray film and the wood samples in the irradiation room.
- Close the door of the X-ray Unit.
!!!! Important !!!!
For first time put into operation only:
- Control first all point of the installation procedure
- Connect the DENDROXRAY 2 to the AC line.
.
- Put the switch-on-key in the power switch.
- Turn the switch-on-key to the right.
-> The cooler is now working.
- Remove the switch-on-key
- Remove cap of reservoir of the cooling unit
- Check the coolant level. If necessary refill coolant with distilled water about 3 cm above cooling fins.
!!!! Important !!!!
For first time put into operation only:
- Let the cooling unit run for about 10 minutes to de-aerate the coolant circuit
- Check the coolant level. If necessary refill coolant
- Screw cap of reservoir of the cooling unit
- Control that the cooling system is sealed (no water is coming out) !
- If water is coming out switch of the Main Switch and remove the main plug !

If the temperature of the cooling water is more than 34°C, it automatically switched
Off the X-RAY.
-> It is then necessary to check the room temperature.
If the cooling water flow is less than 4.1lt/min, it automatically switched Off the XRAY.
-> Check the coolant level. If necessary refill coolant with distilled water about 3 cm
above cooling fins.
If the door handle is turned up, it automatically switched Off the X-RAY.
Before switching Off the DENDROXRAY2 by pressing the Off switch under the keyswitch, wait 2 minutes for the cooling of the x-ray tube. (It will increase the lifetime
of the x-ray tube).
- Now the door of the X-Ray Unit can be opened.
!!! Very Important Remarks !!!
By opening the door of the X-Ray Unit during working of the DENDROXRAY2, the power of the
DENDROXRAY 2 will automatically be shut down. To restart DENDROXRAY2 it is necessary to close the
door again and to turn the key ON onto the control panel.
The Main Switch / Emergency Stop Button has the same function as the safety door switch.
The safety door switches should NOT be used to switch Off the
DENDROXRAY2. To switch Off use the power Off button on the front
panel or the Main Switch.
It is also NECESSARY to wait at least 2 minutes after X-ray are Off
before switching Off the DENDROXRAY. The cooling system must
remain in operation for at least 2 minutes after the termination of the
last exposure
It is strongly recommended to remove the switch-On-key after switching On DENDROXRAY2.
The light emitted by the instruments of the control panel destroys an opened x-ray film.
For this reason, if a film has to be opened during DENDROXRAY2 is working, it is necessary to place a
black cover onto the DENDROXRAY2 Control Panels described previously.
After switching Off or switching Off the main switch or opening of the door it is necessary to wait 3
minutes before switching On DENDROXRAY 2 again.
If the DENDROXRAY 2 is not used for a longer period, it is recommended to remove the main plug.
