temperature.
 It releases heat when dissolved in water.
 It’s a base.
 Its chemical formula is CaO.
 Melting point :2572 °C
 Boiling point :2850 °C
 Solubility in acids :soluble
 Solubility in methanol :insoluble
 Acidity :12.8
Slaked Lime
 It is a colorless crystal or white powder.
 It is of low toxicity
 Calcium hydroxide is used in many applications, including
food preparation.
 Melting point: 580 °C
 Solubility in water :0.189 g/100 mL (0 °C)
 Solubility :Soluble in glycerol and acids.
Insoluble in alcohol.
 Acidity :12.4

Heat of Solution of Calcium Hydroxide
 Aim:
Determine the molar enthalpy of solution of calcium
hydroxide.
Approach:
 Determine the molar enthalpy of neutralization using
the Heat of Neutralization experiment.
 Using calorimetry, determine the molar enthalpy of solution
by dissolving calcium hydroxide in an aqueous HCl solution
and accounting for the heat of neutralization in the
calculations.
