Similes
A FIGURE OF SPEECH
What is a simile?
 Similes are comparisons that show how two nouns
that are not alike in most ways are similar in one
important way.
 Similes use the words “as” or “like” to make the
connection between the two things that are being
compared.
 Similes are a way to describe something.
 Authors use them to make their writing more
interesting or entertaining.
Mason can run
as fast as lightning!
Khloe is
as sweet as a peach!
Connor is
as strong as a bull.
Isaiah and his brother
would never fight like cats and
dogs.
Avery is
as wise as an owl.
Kayla is
graceful like a swan.
Alexis runs
as fast as a cheetah.
Andrew’s smile
is bright as the sun.
Evan was
shaking like a leaf.
Grace’s hands were
as cold as ice.
Calli
is gentle as a lamb.
Sawyer works
like a dog.
Aidin slept
like a log after baseball practice.
Allison sings
like an angel.
Austin ran
as fast as the wind.
Luke has
