EG Robotics - Going Green Study Questions Study for the weekly review questions! At the start of each class we ask students questions about what they learned the week before. If you know the answer you may get AMP Dollars! Week 1 Review Questions Q) Name 3 green building technologies? A) Solar Heating, Geothermal Heating, Recycled materials as insulation, Green/living Roof, Solar panels, Wind turbine Q) What kind of general use light uses the least amount of electricity for the greatest amount of light produced? A) LEDs use the least amount of power for the greatest amount of light produced. Q) How might sensors help us save electricity? A) Sensors can be used to turn off lights when the sun comes up. They can detect when the laundry is dry and quit running. They can shut off the furnace or cooler when the temperature has been reached. Week 2 Review Questions Q) Name 3 components that have a negative and positive leg. A) LED, Buzzer, Battery Pack, Some Capacitors, Q) Which leg is positive on an LED? A) The longer leg is positive Q) What fixed resistor amounts do we have in our component shack? A) 220 ohm, 1k ohm, and 10k ohm resistors Week 3 Review Questions Q) How do you know which leg of a buzzer is positive? A) The long leg of a buzzer is positive, or the side with a ‘+’ sign, or the red wire coming out of the buzzer. Q) Where do you put a switch in a circuit? A) A switch can be put in almost in positive in a circuit that will directly disconnect the power and connect the power. It can be placed at the beginning of the circuit or at the end. Q) What are the 3 legs of a transistor? A) The Collector Base and Emitter. The collector connects to negative, the Base connects to a sensor or switch, and the emitter connects out to positive. Place the component like an LED on the Emitter side. Week 4 Review Questions Q) How do you change the polarity (Direction) of a motor? A) You switch the positive and negative going to the motor. Q) Explain the difference between parallel and series circuit! A) A parallel circuit has multiple pathways that electricity can flow through. A series circuit has only 1 pathway the electricity can flow through. A parallel circuit keeps volts the same when it splits off. A series circuit splits the voltage between the components in the circuit. Q) How does a transistor work and what would you compare it to? A) A transistor allows electricity to flow when the center pin, the base, is turned on. We can compare a transistor to a draw bridge. The bridge is up when in power is to the center pin, but when the center pin is powered to connects the wires and allows the electricity to flow.
