Polarization-insensitive high-dispersion total internal reflection
Polarization-insensitive high-dispersion total internal reflection

... grating period. For long periods, the characteristic of efficiency versus depth also departs from a typical sinusoidal behavior8 into one with multiple peaks, as shown in Fig. 3(b). This change of behavior is responsible for the marked jump in optimal grating depth for long grating periods, as shown ...

... The quality of beam optics is of great importance for the performance of a high energy accelerator like the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The turn-byturn (TBT) beam position monitor (BPM) data can be used to derive beam optics. However, the accuracy of the derived beam optics is often limi ...

The first is to use the fuel at relatively low density, confined by strong magnetic fields, and thereby slow down the reaction so that it can be reasonably guided: this approach is called ”Magnetic confinement” and it is exploited in the ”Tokamak ” reactor. The other approach is to bring the fuel to ...

... There are several ways to create results plots that visually exaggerate changes such as displacement, bending, or shrinking. This helps to visualize deformations, especially in cases where they’re not obvious when plotted on a 1:1 scale. To demonstrate this, we’ll use two models, a piezoacoustic tra ...

Thomas Young (scientist)

Thomas Young (13 June 1773 – 10 May 1829) was an English polymath and physician. Young made notable scientific contributions to the fields of vision, light, solid mechanics, energy, physiology, language, musical harmony, and Egyptology. He ""made a number of original and insightful innovations""in the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs (specifically the Rosetta Stone) before Jean-François Champollion eventually expanded on his work. He was mentioned by, among others, William Herschel, Hermann von Helmholtz, James Clerk Maxwell, and Albert Einstein. Young has been described as ""The Last Man Who Knew Everything"".
