... it may serve as a motivation). On the other hand, the philosopher of science need not know all the details of an experiment, or the specific calculations in a theory, to discuss questions such as the one just posed. Nevertheless, philosophical issues can be hard to separate from scientific ones. If ...

The Wollaston prism splits the input wave into two: an ordinary and extraordinary one, so the optical field can be considered as two incident ...

When Congo red-stained amyloid is considered, this arrangement is what is usually meant by ‘polarized light,’ but a more accurate expression is examination of a specimen between crossed polarizer and analyzer. There are two observations to explain, namely, how Congo red-stained amyloid a ...

Thomas Young (scientist)

Thomas Young (13 June 1773 – 10 May 1829) was an English polymath and physician. Young made notable scientific contributions to the fields of vision, light, solid mechanics, energy, physiology, language, musical harmony, and Egyptology. He ""made a number of original and insightful innovations""in the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs (specifically the Rosetta Stone) before Jean-François Champollion eventually expanded on his work. He was mentioned by, among others, William Herschel, Hermann von Helmholtz, James Clerk Maxwell, and Albert Einstein. Young has been described as ""The Last Man Who Knew Everything"".
