Transition Probability (Fidelity) and its Relatives

... What can be done if the system is in a mixed state with density operator ρ1 and we like to prepare another mixed state, ρ2 , by a measurement? This task cannot be performed within the system itself2 . We have to leave the system based on H and have to go to larger systems in which one can perform ap ...

... It is in the equations that the problem of measurement is most starkly seen. The state ψ in non-relativistic quantum mechanics is a function on the configuration space of a system (or one isomorphic to it, like momentum space). A point in this space specifies the positions of all the particles compr ...

Instanton

An instanton (or pseudoparticle) is a notion appearing in theoretical and mathematical physics. An instanton is a classical solution to equations of motion with a finite, non-zero action, either in quantum mechanics or in quantum field theory. More precisely, it is a solution to the equations of motion of the classical field theory on a Euclidean spacetime.
